Baleal
"Ilha" do Baleal
The Baleal island, which is formed with rock sediments is linked to the mainland by two beaches that almost touch with fine sand. One is on the northside, where there is a famous spot to surf "Lagido"(Lágide). The other is on the south east, the bay, also frequently used for for several water activities. There is also the "Island of the Doves" (Ilha das Pombas) and two hidden islands: the boatisland which is in front of the guest house and the "Cebolas" (Onions) next to the small island.
From Baleal (South point), the beach on the bay extends itself to the north beach of Peniche. (Praia da Gamboa). This invites you for a walk by the sea of fine white sand and small dunes.
On the north side, there is a coast with magical colours and where the colors are always changing. The sand can be seen as far as your eyes can reach passing "Pedras Muitas" (many rocks) and ending at "Foz do Arelho". It is a line of coast, that words or images can not totally describe it.
A Must
Our breakfast on the terrace with a view of the (beach of the boats) "Praia dos Barcos". Sun bathing and swimming, water sport, walks around the island. A visit to the Chapel of S. Estevão. Walks on the beach, relax and let yourself get inspired by the nature of this special place.
Baleal at the end of the afternoon with the sunset above the sea, having Berlengas as part of the scenary, having the sense of the smell of the sea followed by the rhythm of the waves on the shore... This is an extraordinary work of nature, a divine spectacle. Also the sunrise, in contrast with light and colour, provide moments of rare beauty.
"It is only a big rock separated from the coastand anchored at three hundred meters... A carcass coming out of the blue sea dripping blue, and clutched to earth by a string of sand. It almost disappears with the tides. It is the most beautiful beach in portugal"
