Land of people tied to the sea. It was once an island. Presents a rocky coast moulded by the winds and sea. Bonded to a vast legacy of history, culture and religion. It is the city situated at the western part of Europe.
It has been recently named the "Capital da Onda" (Capital of Wave). The city of Peniche has to offer several beaches with unique characteristics for surfing. Worldwide known for the surf championships, "The Super Tubos" beach, is one of the most desirable and stimulating for the surfing fans.
On a heritage standard, the fortification and religious monuments stand out. Peniche presents a very big diversity of touristic resources, having a very rich and diverse gastronomy with its fish and sea food dishes. It also has diversified handcrafts, as for example the famous lacework "renda de bilros" (bobbin-lace).

Which is held every yearin one of the "freguesias" civil parish of the rural municipality. It is already considered an unique event in the west region. Because of its excelent gastronomy and animation, it attracts thousands of visitors every year.
Dia da Rendileira (Day of the Laceworkers)
Inserted in the "Semana da Rendilheira" Week of the Laceworkers. It is a very important day to honor the noble art of lacework (bobbin-lace). The monthly markets are also very pleasant for the municipality and its surrounding.

Gastronomy
The proximity to the sea is implicitly connected to the people of Peniche. Evidence of this is in their food, mostly being fish and sea food. Outstanding is the "Caldeirada de Peniche" fish stew and "Sardinha Assada" barbecued sardines. Equally delicious are the local sweets Pasteís de Peniche, Amigos de Peniche and almond biscuits called "esses". The "Avenida do Mar" Avenue of the Sea" and the "Largo da Ribeira" are the two locations where there are an enormous variety of restaurants and specialities. Although there are also restaurants spread through all the municipality, making the gastronomy one of the high points and also one of the most attractive of the region.
